About us
The starting point for this hike, classified as difficult, is the parking lot before the chapel of Sainte-Marie du Menez-Hom.
To begin, take the road towards Trégarvan for 800 metres (on the left-hand side of the road). Then turn left onto a dirt track under the pines. Follow the heathery landscape for 2.4 km until you reach hill 312, close to the summit of the Menez-Hom "mountain".
Then descend to the left along a path until you reach the D83, which you cross to continue straight ahead. Follow the GR de Pays "Tour de la presqu'île de Crozon" path to reach the summit of Le Yed, at 330 m altitude. Then head back down, taking the path to the right below the stone table. At the bottom, leave the GR® de Pays and cross the D887 with care, heading for the village of Coathérel. At the hamlet, turn left.
At the next crossroads, follow the GR® de Pays signs up towards Kergoat Côme. After walking for 600 metres, you can make a slight detour to discover the Chapelle Neuve fountain on the right, 150 metres away. (Anecdotally, the water from this fountain was reputed to help retarded children learn to walk!) Continue to the top and turn left onto the road. At the next crossroads, take a wide gravel path opposite, then, at the next junction, climb to the left. Go right down the road to discover the Menez-Lié dolmen, located on the edge of a field, which you will follow for 100 metres before going left down a grassy path along the embankment. Then turn right onto the road, continue for 100 metres, and turn left to go down a wide track towards Ménez-Yan. The descent continues along the road. After 250 m, turn left onto a farm track, then descend towards Penfrout. Take the road on the left. Once you've passed the hamlet of Coat Ivinec, take the dirt track on the left, then a small road. Be very careful when crossing the D47 and D887, as traffic on these roads is very heavy and fast. You'll find the intersection back at your starting point by walking through the pine forest. Finally, a well-deserved return to the parking lot at the Chapelle Sainte-Marie du Menez-Hom!
Don't miss:
> the Sainte-Marie-du-Menez-Hom chapel
> the "Yed", the summit of Menez-Hom, with its 360° view
> the chapelle Neuve fountain
> the Menez-Lié estate
> the Saint-Suliau chapel (detour 400 m from Penfrout).
