Saint-Budoc church

A RICH RELIGIOUS HERITAGE

Saint-Budoc Church

A stone trough finish!

Built in 1590, the small parish enclosure, overlooking the banks of the Aulne, contains a Latin cross church with 16th-century remains. It was rebuilt in the 17th and early 18th centuries. There's also a 17th-century calvary, a small ossuary, a triumphal gate and the tombstone of an Empire soldier who died in Trégarvan in 1857. Its patron saint is Saint Budoc, the spiritual master of Saint Guénolé, future founder of Landévennec Abbey and famous bishop of Dol de Bretagne.

Saint Budoc is said to have been born in the barrel in which his father locked his mother Azénor, throwing her into the sea to punish her for her supposed infidelity. The barrel landed safely in Ireland. Legend has it that it returned to Armorica in a stone trough called a curragh - more comfortable than a barrel, it seems! - in the 4th century .

During your visit, you'll also discover a curved tomb high altar, a 16th-century pietà, sandpits, antique statues and a sundial dating from 1698.

THE MUST-HAVE

Visit to the rural school museum

Ready to go back in time?

Who had the crazy idea, one day, to invent the school!

Here, you can (re)discover school as it was in days gone by, thanks to reconstructed classrooms from 1910 and 1970.
Enjoy taking dictation (yes, yes!), learning to write with a penholder (watch out for stains!) or one of the museum's thousand other activities!
Today, you can also discover a labotager. What's that? It's an unusual place where more things grow than the gardener can sow, and where many more little creatures live than you might imagine... we'll let you be surprised!

Did you know?

Trégarvan comes from the Breton "Treb" (village) and "Garvan" (river). This charming commune is also known as the "Pearl of the Aulne", in reference to the beauty of the meandering waterway that borders it!

The Panoramic Loop" mountain bike trail

Mountain bike favourites

Although the trail starts at Sainte-Marie du Menez-Hom, it offers a beautiful section below Menez-Hom, in the Trégarvan communal forest, between moorland and pine trees. Hollow paths, fast, technical descents and undergrowth "singletrack" will delight experienced mountain bikers. Sensations guaranteed!
