Kervijen Marsh

Why take advantage?

This coastal wetland, located at the head of the Bay of Douarnenez, is made up of a mosaic of natural environments: high and low reedbeds, reedbeds, wet meadows, aspen and open water. It is also home to a wide variety of animal species (semi-aquatic mammals, odonates, reptiles and amphibians, birds, insects, fish, large mammals, etc.). The passionate naturalists of the Grumpy Nature association, supported by the Conseil Départemental, take a close interest in the biodiversity of this marsh, and in particular its avifauna, capturing and ringing nearly 6,000 birds of some sixty different species every year, from the most common (Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting...) to the rarest (Aquatic Warbler, Moustached Wagtail...). The banding station, in the heart of the marsh, is open every day from late July to late August, and every weekend from September to mid-December. Birds are gently captured in the reedbed, then identified, ringed, measured and, of course, released! Walkers and summer visitors alike love this spectacle!
