Plomodiern boasts a rich religious heritage.

While the chapel of Sainte-Marie du Menez-Hom remains a must-see, Plomodiern also boasts a church dedicated to Saint-Mahouarn in its town center, which invites you to stop off for a while. Its south porch deserves special attention, with 10 shell niches containing statues of the apostles, each accompanied by his or her usual attribute: book, saw, sword, square, knife, etc.
The fountain dedicated to him is located at the bottom of the rue de la fontaine.
In addition to the many crosses and calvaries, three chapels of character complete this rich heritage: Saint-Corentin, Saint-Sébastien and Saint-Suliau.

DID YOU KNOW?

Saint-Corentin chapel

and the legend of the miraculous fish

Long, long ago... at a place called "Leskobet", on the edge of the forest, stood the hermitage of Saint Corentin. Legend has it that he ate a fish that regenerated with each meal. During a hunt, King Gradlon lost his way and wandered for several days in the Menez-Hom forest. Exhausted and hungry, he arrived in Leskobet. Corentin offered him a piece of fish, and not just any piece! A piece of this animal that legend described as magical, that could be cut and that, once returned to the water, would regenerate itself. When King Gradlon decided to found a bishopric in Cornouaille, he made the latter the first bishop of Cornouaille.

The local motto " Adveva Rin Bemdez", literally "Every day I live again", refers to the legend of the miraculous fish of Saint-Corentin.

Keep a close eye on the creek when you come to the Saint-Corentin chapel... Who knows, you might just catch a glimpse of this legendary fish!

The Kervijen wreck

A pirate ship aground?

In the 1950s, when wood was in short supply, farmers bought up shipwrecks to salvage fuel and build fires for daily cooking. This wreck has a rather unusual history. It was delivered to the wrong beach by distracted fishermen! As the currents and high tides roll in, it reveals itself and then hides...
