Église Saint-Mahouarn Plomodierm (29)-27

Why take advantage?

The church's layout (16th-17th centuries) features a canted chevet and buttresses crowned with lanterns. A large porch with an exterior portal is framed by two fluted Ionic columns, giving access to the interior via a staircase. The nave is aisled and the columns bear a few capitals. While one of the runners bears the date 1564, the chevet and porch were built in 1624. The whole was rebuilt in the mid-19th century. Banners and sculptures punctuate the interior with color. The stained-glass windows are elaborately carved.
A calvary highlights the space behind the chevet, with the classical representation of Christ surrounded by Mary and John, and a Pietà at the foot of the Crucifixion. The whole is surmounted by a Gothic canopy. On the reverse, a seated figure seems to be blessing the audience, perhaps Saint Mahouarn, an expression of Saint Hervé or Saint Magloire, of whose historical reality nothing is known!
A rather simple cross with beautiful statues, further into the village, called Ty Veron, features a Crucifixion and a Virgin and Child on the back. [ According to Anne Dietrich ]
