OUR 17 COMMUNES

Plonévez-Porzay

Nestled at the head of the Bay of Douarnenez, in the heart of the Porzay region and just a stone's throw from the characterful village of Locronan, this dynamic commune welcomes you.
Plonévez-Porzay is an ideal place to stay, combining land and sea, with lush green countryside and two long, sandy family beaches: Kervel and Sainte-Anne-la-Palud, ideal for swimming and water sports.

From April to October, a Sunday morning market featuring local produce brings the church square to life.

Numerous events also punctuate the summer.
Every year, on the last weekend of August, the Grand Pardon de Sainte-Anne-la-Palud in honor of Saint Anne, the "grandmother of all Bretons", attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over the world. It certainly contributes to the town's reputation!

HIKING IDEA

Along the Sainte-Anne-La-Palud cove

Coast, dunes and countryside

This is certainly one of the most beautiful hikes in the Menez-Hom Atlantique, offering breathtaking views over the Bay of Douarnenez, particularly along the GR®34 and the Beg Ar Vechen and Tréfeuntec points.
From the peaceful village of Tréfeuntec,
set off in the footsteps of Sainte-Anne for a 9km hike alternating between coastline, points, dunes and lush green countryside.
Keep an eye out for the more hilly southern part of the circuit.

INSOLITE

Le Manoir de Roz Tréfeuntec

Unique in Brittany... But what is this strange, somewhat gloomy building that can be seen along the coastal path leading to Kervel? It's a modern-style manor house that has never been lived in! Today, it's owned by the Conseil Départemental du Finistère, and access is forbidden without authorization. On the west side, you can admire its impressive cross facing the sea. Its atypical spire-shaped roof continues to intrigue passing visitors. Some see it as a lookout post, a bell tower and sometimes even a pyramid, but what do you think?

POINT OF VIEW

Salgren Island

an island at high tide!

To the north of the beach at Sainte-Anne-La-Palud is the Isle Salgren, which marks the separation from its neighbor, the beach at Ty Anquer. This viewpoint, to be climbed at low tide, offers a magnificent view of the Bay of Douarnenez!

The dunes of Sainte-Anne-La-Palud

shaped by wind, sand and plants!

The Sainte-Anne-La-Palud dune massif is a 41-hectare protected natural area, offering spectacular views over the Bay of Douarnenez. Made up of the grey dunes of the Atlantic coast, it is home to 150 different species, including many protected species: moss, blue thistle, wild laurel, willow and wild orchids.

Here are a few tips to help you discover this fragile and protected environment:

  • Stay on the marked trails
  • Observe nature
  • Don't pick the plants, take photos of them!

DID YOU KNOW?

The smell of curry in the dunes?

Indeed, when the sun warms the vegetation, the sand immortelle - a protected plant that is forbidden to pick! -This plant is found in abundance here, and gives off a strong spicy scent reminiscent of curry, candy sugar or coffee. Let your senses run wild!

Did you know?

It was here in Plonévez-Porzay, near the village of Tréfeuntec, that Jean-Marie Le Bris achieved the historic feat of his first flight. This aviation pioneer, one of Brittany's first aviators, took off from the cliff in a glider with movable wings called a "winged boat", inspired by seabirds. A stele, erected in 1968 in the parking lot at Tréfeuntec on the site of his very first exploit, commemorates the importance of this historic moment.

HOLIDAY IDEAS

in local shops and at the Sunday market!

THE GRAND MOTHER OF ALL BRETONS In the spotlight!

Grand pardon de Sainte-Anne-la-Palud

Every year, on the last weekend of August, the Grand Pardon de Sainte-Anne-la-Palud takes place - the most famous in Cornouaille! - It culminates in Sunday mass, followed by vesper praises and a grand procession featuring some one hundred crosses, banners and statues, carried by over 500 men and women in traditional Breton costumes. Are you interested in railroad history, or just curious? A visit is a must! It's free!

A master of the great steam era from 1850 to 1970, he is passionate about introducing visitors to this wonderful era... A veritable living encyclopedia!

While adults will appreciate the rarity of the exhibits (oil lantern from 1852, Finistère society plaque from 1893), younger visitors will be delighted to see the miniature trains of its giant network, complete with tunnels, bridges and staging!
