Eglise du Vieux Bourg - Lothey

Why take advantage?

The chapelle du Vieux-Bourg was built around the 17th century and is dedicated to Saint They, a monk from Landévennec, who is said to have been a disciple of Saint Guénolé. He is said to have set up his hermitage here, which became a center of devotion and pilgrimage.
When the time came to erect a Roman-style parish, the locus-They was the obvious choice to be the village and They the patron saint. His "specialty" was rheumatism and pain.
Inside the chapel, you can admire a superb triptych (Saint Anne, the Virgin and the Child). This statue is on a par with the Flemish sculptures. There's also Saint Barbara, patron saint of quarrymen, leaning on a tower and holding a palm in her hand, and of course a majestic Saint They, depicted as an abbot, miter on his head, pastoral staff in his right hand and an open book in his left. Also exceptional is the heart plaque of P. Le Roux in the choir. Another special feature of this chapel is the (unexplained) absence of a spire on the bell tower.
