Chapelle Sainte-Barbe

Why take advantage?

Its tau-shaped floor plan, leaning bell tower and green setting make it a charming heritage site, with its calvary dating from 1585. Founded by the Lords of Barvédel, it features the three Porzay materials: granite, schist and sandstone. The sacristy was added in 1736. The interior features an original clay floor. The nave walls are blind. The eye naturally wanders to the choir and transepts, where statues, a superb 16th-century stained-glass window and remnants of wall paintings removed when the altar was renovated are to be found.
The nearby forest is home to several small fountains. The first, dating from 1773, is the most important.
The single-barrel calvary, with seven 17th-century statues, is beautifully crafted and by the same workshop as the nearby edifices of Saint-Méen and Saint-Nicodème. A La Tène stele is located a little further along the road to Cast, demonstrating the antiquity of this sacred site. Legend has it that it helps families have boys!
